Flying
Frits Philips spent much of his time abroad, in search of new markets.
Opportunities for relaxation were taken on the outward and return
journeys, seated at the controls of his business plane. Flying remained
his great passion into old age, despite various emergency landings
that very nearly cost him his life. His sense of humor never deserted
him. In 1964, when taking journalist Sem Presser out in the twin-engined
Beechcraft he quipped: ‘You really shouldn’t worry. Even my wife
is quite happy to accompany me.’

Frits Philips developed a passion for flying in his youth. He continued
to take his place at the controls into his old age.

Pele, the star player of the Brazilian national team, shakes hands
with Frits Philips. (1963)
